Twitter

What is Twitter?
Twitter is a form of communication that allows you to read and write messages from friends, family and businesses you choose to follow. You only have up to 140 characters to get whatever point you are trying to get across on this micro-blogging platform.  Messages or “Tweets” are in real time and you can read or send them from your pc or your mobile phone.

You can usually find people tweeting about their day to day activities, current events or celebrity gossip. But if you are like me, you are using Twitter to network with people from around the world that you would not otherwise have the opportunity to connect with.

What makes Twitter different than networking on Facebook or Linkedin? A couple of differences is that you are receiving the information in real-time and your tweets are public. In fact, Twitter has made such an impact in our society that tweets will now be archived at the Library of Congress! So don’t tweet anything you may regret later.

There are many benefits to using Twitter. But first you have to understand it and the strategies that go along with it. Mashable, a great site for social media news and web tips, has a great Twitter Guidebook.

I will continue to share news and tips on cool tools, tricks and other great info on Twitter, so stop by often!

But for now, enjoy this great video by Common Craft called Twitter in Plain English.
